The buttons below will open up the various results, and there is also a sumary of all the mens and juniors prize winners.

The two Captains have both done a fantastic job is organising the competition this year, as all the Captains have always done, so a big thank you goes out to John Goodman and Shirley Hardy who are both having very good years as Captains so far. A thank you must also go out to Vice Captain Dave Goodman who was out at 5.30 putting the white tee markers out on the course for all the players, and also to Su Goodman who was also down the club very early to help John set up and to also collect money for the raffle, which raised £200 for charity. Kev Wood and Mark Allen helped John put the tent out very early in the morning and they also deserve a big thank you, especially Mark who wasn't even playing in Captains Day. As always the ladies in the tent did a fantastic job serving people after 9 holes and they once again deserve a large amount of praise, including new recruit Angela Rushin. Richard Primrose always does a fantastic job on block booking dates, getting down the club very early in the morning to start people off, playing golf and then running all the cards through the computer ready for the presentation, and Richard also deserves a lot of credit, as does Cathy Smith who ran all the ladies cards before their presentation after playign herself. The day was well enjoyed by all and the weather was not too bad which is always a bonus, so a big thank you to everybody who helped to make the day an enjoyable one.

Mens Gross

The Captains Cup is what everybody wants to win on Captains Day, and the Captains Cup goes to the player with the best Gross on the day. This year the Captains Cup went to Ben Hall after he shot a 2 under par Gross 70. It was a very sold round of golf which included 4 birdies and 2 bogeys and a number of missed putts. Ben was out in 1 over after 8 pars and a bogey, but the picked up shots on 11, 13, 15 and 17 with a droppes shot on 12 in the middle. It is the second time Ben has won the Captains Cup and a thank you must go out to club professional John Butler who has got Ben striking the bll so much better. Lee Tebbut was second in the Gross after a 71 which also included a number of missed putts, mainly 3 putts after struggling to get used to the greens. Lee's round was very ordinary with 5 to play, at 3 over, but a fantastic finish of 4 birdies in the last 5 holes made the round a very good one. Lee is once again the lowest handicapper in the club after Ed Eley briefly overtook him, for the first time in what must be 15-20 years. Ed Eley had the third best Gross of the day with a 74, which followed up his fantastic 69 he shot the previous weekend.

Mens Division 1

Ben Hall had the best Nett overall and in division 1 with his Nett 65, but you cannot win more than one prize meaning Lee Tebbutt took home the bext Nett in Division 1. Lee's Gross 71 equated to a Nett 68 and has got him cut to 2.6 once again. Ben ha been cut down to a career low 4.8 as a result of Captains Day. Darren Peden took the second best Nett prize in division 1 with a Gross 79 Nett 70 off his 9 handicap. There were then 4 players on Nett 71, with Tidge Gharial (Gross 77), Roger Loach (Gross 80), Ed Eley (Gross 74) and John Holland (Gross 80) just missing out on the prizes. Dave Sewart and Richard Primrose both shot Nett 74's.

Mens Division 2

Scoring in division 2 was fantastic, with a total of 8 people coming in under their handicaps. At the top of that list was Vice-President Dave Forrester, who at the start of the season could not even play golf due to an operation. Dave shot a Gross 85 off his 19 handicap giving him a Nett 66 which has also seen him cut down to 17.6, just 0.2 away from a playing handicap of 17. Dave won division 2 by a shot, with Richard Bonser in second place after his Gross 80 Nett 67 has seen his handicap reduced from 13 to 12. Club President Dave Leet has been talking recently about the handicap of Brian Fletcher-Warrington, but after both shot Nett 68's it was Dave who beat Brian on count-back. Dave shot a Gross 81 off 13 to come third in division 3, a round which has also seen him cut down to 12. Brian was fourth in the division with a Gross 84 playing off 16, which has seen his handicap reduced to 14.7, still a playing handicap of 15. Brian has lost 3 shots in recent weeks and is in fantastic form, but he will have been very disapointed to just miss out on the prizes. Steve Monksfield was next in the division after a Gross 85 Nett 69, beating Mick Tebbutt (Gross 88) on count-back. Both players have lost a shot as a result. Asra has lost another shot after a Gross 83 Nett 70, bring him down to 12. Joe Larkey was the other player to finish under his handicap after a Nett 71. These were absolutely fantastic scores from the division 2 players, although certain players wil be disapointd not to prize after shooting the scores they did.

Mens Division 3

Scoring was not as low in division 3 as it was in the previous divisions, although the division 3 winner Jim Sawbridge came in with a Gross 91 Nett 69 off his 22 handicap, leaving him as the division 3 winner for the second year in a row. Jim will not doubt be cut back at his home club of Kibworth, and this Nett 69 might even be good enough to bring his handicap down to 21. Club Treasurer Nick McCaffrey was second in division 3 with a Gross 103 Nett 77 off his 27 handicap, while Gary Smith picked up the third place prize with a Gross 98 - 21 for a Nett 77. Brian Haines was next on Nett 78 while John Giles was fifth in the division after a Nett 80.

Mens 2s, Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive

There were a total of six 2’s altogether on Captains Day, with Tidge Gharial making 2, one on the 10th and one on the 16th. Werner Brach also made a two on the 10th but unfortunately did not pay his £1 to enter the 2’s, therefore not winning any money. Neil Montaut, Brian Haines and Jim Sawbridge all made 2’s on the 10th hole, taking a share of the pot. Tidge Gharial’s 2 on the 10th also won his the nearest the pin after he hit his tee shot to around 23 inches, very nearly making a hole in one. Ed Eley won the longest drive which was located on the 15th hole for Captains Day.

Juniors

There was a new Junior Captains Day Cup this year which was very kindly donated by the Leicestershire & Rutland Captains Society, and Tom Brach was the first ever winner of this trophy. Tom shot a very good Gross 94 Nett 66 off his 28 handicap which has now seen him cut down to 26, on the brink of 25. It was a very good performance from Tom who is starting to become a very good little player, and a player who has a very bright future. David Rees is another junior who has a very bright future, and he showed it again on Captains Day with a Gross 84 Nett 67 which sees him cut down to 16. Liam Prendergast shot a Gross 97 Nett 69 to finish third. Ian Timmins was fourth with a Nett 71. There were also Junior Mystery Prizes this year which were for the lowest scores on certain holes. Ian Timmins won the Mystery Prize on the 8th while Craig Seal won the Mystery Prize on the 17th. Junior Captain Andrew Keogh won the Junior Longest Drive.

Ladies

Cathy Smith won the Ladies Captains Day with a Nett 73.

Past Captains Cup

This year there were some good scores in the Mens Past Captains Cup, with Club President Dave Leet taking home the trophy after a Gross 81 Nett 68 off his 13 handicap. Dave even decided to bogey the last two holes to avoid getting cut too much, and Dave beat last years winner of the cup Jim Sawbridge by a shot, just stopping Jim from defending the title. The ladies Past Captains Cup was won by Shirley Bright with a Nett 74.
