The scratch team kept up their 100% record this year as they beat Lutterworth 7 - 1 at Oadby on Thursday 4th June. It was a fantastic result for the team who knew that a win was a must going into the 5 away matches, the bigger the win the better. None of the team disapointed, even Dale who lost took his loss very well, and Im sure he will be ever more determined to win the next match after this result. The team was exaclty the same as the last match, although the order was changed around quite a bit, including captain Tidge Gharial putting himself off at number 8 to try and give him an easy match to keep up his 100% winning record for the year. See the team section for a more detailed match report
Juniors
Tom Brach shot a Gross 100 Nett 57 off his 43 handicap to win the Pat & Pat Mortimer Cup. It was a fantastic score by Tom and a Nett score that is very rarely seen. Tom has now been cutt to 33 after his fantastic score. Danny Keogh was second with a Nett 66, beating Charlie Patel on count-back. Both players have now been cutt, with Danny to 30, and Charlie to 31. Lee Prendergast was 4th with 71, while Sam Buckley was 5th with a Nett 72.
Seniors
John Beaumont shot 87 playing off 23 to shoot a Nett 64 and win the Pat Mortimer shield by 7 shots. Ron Allen was second with a Nett 71, while Mel Orgill was third with a Nett 72. John Beaumont has now been cut to 20.
Under 35's
The Under 35's team unfortunately lost their second match of the season 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 at home to Kibworth on Friday 5th June. The team was slightly changed from the first match, with Paul Hillsdon and Adam Jacques coming in for Ed Eley and Gianluca Napolitano. The match went down to the last match, with Ben Hall and Paul Hillsdon needing to win the hole for a 2-2 draw, which unfortunately they didn't. There is a more detailed match report in the Under 35's team section on the website.
Menphys Charity Shield
Steve Abblett won his second consectutive competition on Saturday 6th June when he won the Menphys Charity Shield by 2 shots. Steve shot 84 Nett 68 and has now been cutt to 15. Steve has been in fantastic form recently, beating Lee Tebbutt in the Pat Murphy KO before winning the Fullers London Pride and now the Menphys Charity Shield. With this latest win Steve has gone top of the order of merit. Colin Henfrey was second with a Nett 70, while Ray Clark finished third with a Nett 71. Ray was cut on stableford adjusted to 25. Ed Eley shot the best gross score of the day with a 78.
Homes Menphys Charity Shield
Oliver Fletcher-Warrington battled his way to victory in very tough conditions in the Homes Menphys Charity Shield, played on Sunday 7th June. The conditions were aweful that day, with a lot of rain overnight leaving a lot of surafce water on the greens due to the hardness of the course. If the course were softer, the rain would have soaked in making the course not as bad, but unfortunately that didnt happen. Scoring was very hard, with only half of the 20 man field actually finishing the competition. Oli won the comp with a Gross 82 Nett 70, and he won it on count-back ahead of Rob Lovell. Rob has been cutt from 21 to 20. Scott Merrell was thrid with a nett 72, and fourth place came in with a Nett 77. Andy Vale, who is second in the order of merit, shot Nett 80 and managed to get some points for the order of the merit.
Mens County Foursomes Round 2
The mens county foursomes team moved into the quarter-finals when they beat Kirby Muxloe at home on Wednesay 10th June. The team consisted of Tidge Gharial and Ben Hall, who won 3UP, and Ed Eley and Dave Goodman, who birdied the last to finish All-Square. Kirby were never going to be easy to beat due to the vast amount of very low handicappers they have, but the shots recieved by Oadby proved to be to many for the Kirby boys, giving Oadby a 3UP victory. A full report can be found in the mens county foursomes team section, under other OGC teams.
Under 35's
The Under 35's team won their first match on Friday 12th June when they beat Leicestershire 4-0 away. Going into the match the team thought it was going to be a very tough match, but in the end it proved to be rather easy for the team. The worst win was 4&3, with Oadby turning up and playing some fantastic golf between the 8 players. A full match report can be found in the under 35's section.
Pat Murphy KO News
The Pat Murphy KO has now been updated on the website, with all of the second round matches played and two of the quarter-final matches also been played. The first quarter-final match played saw Asra beat Tim Bingham. Asra had previosuly beat Werner Brach in the second round while Tim Bingham had beat Dave Leet. Defending champion Richard Bonser was knocked out by Dave Sewart, while 10 time club champion Lee Tebbutt was beat by in form man Steve Ablett, who cant seem to do anything wrong at the minute. The quarter-finals see Steve take on Dave Sewart. Tidge Gharial beat Mitch French, and he goes on to play Mark Allen ion the quarter-finals. Mark came through a touch match against Paul Hancock. James Whitehead is no doubt one of the favourites left in the competition. He had beat Dave Goodman in the first round, he then went onto beat Jan Reading in the second round, and he moved into the semi-finals after beating Richard Primrose. This result is not on the drawsheet but James did beat Richard. They were all tough matches, and having come through all of them James will surely fancy his chances, although he will have another tough match against Mark Allen or Tidge Gharial. Richard Rimrose had beat Barry Frith in the second round to set up the tie against James Whitehead. At this stage it really is anybody's to win, but if Ablett continues the form he has been in he will be very tough to beat.
Harry Miller Shield
Scott Merrell won the Harry Miller Shield on Sunday 14th June with a Gorss 81 Nett 66 playing off 15. As a result of this win Scott has now been cut to 13.6, only one good round away from 13. L Cracknell was second with a Nett 67 off 16, and he has also been cutt, to 15. Paul Hancock shot a Nett 69 to get him down to 21.5, although still with a playing handicap of 22. Paul has been playing very solid golf this year, golf that has seen him rise to number 3 in the order of merit. The leader in the order of merit showed once again why he is the leader, with a solid Nett 70 to finish fourth. Jan Reading was fifth with Nett 71, while Ben Hall was sixth with Nett 72, his Gross 78 being the lowest Gross of the day.
Seniors June Medal
The seniors June Medal was played on Thursday 16th June, and Ron Allen came through victorious. Ron has had a good year so far, winning the mens Paul Bottell Greensome, and his Gross score of 88 off his 19 handicap Nett 69 was good enough to beat Dave Forrester by 3 shots. Ron has now been cutt to 18.
Order Of Merit
The current standings for the order of merit have now been posted on the website, and they can be found in the Results-Mens section. Steve Ablett's fantastic recent form has seen him jump to top of the order of merit, while Andy Vale, who seems to keep coming second in competitions, is currently sitting in second place, 75 points behind Steve. Andy has missed a few compeitions due to getting to the winter league final, so Im sure now he can play in more compeitions he will be looking to make a charge at Steve and try and take him off the top of the leaderboard. Paul Hancock is over 100 points behind Vale in third place, while Tim Bingham is currently sitting in fourth. Last years winner Ed Eley is currently in fifth place, waiting to make a charge, just like he did last year. Jay Smith, Scott Merrell, Mick Geddes, Jan Reading and Kev Wood make up the remainder of the top 10, with 5 single figure handicappers taking up the next 7 places.
Scratch Team
The scratch team lost their first match of the season on Thursday 18th June when they lost 6 - 2 away to Charnwood. The team had won their first four matches, all at home, and the away match at Charnwood was never going to be easy. Charnwood is a course that needs to have been played before, as you need to know where not to miss shots. Four of the team had never played the course before. There were changes to the team that beat Lutterworth, with Lee Tebbutt and Nigel Oldman coming in for Adam Jacques and Gianluca Napolitano. Ed Eley beat former European tour professional Kev Barnes and Dave Goodman was the other winner. There is a full match report in the scratch team match reports section.
Junior Phyllis Stanyon Shield
Jake Hurst shot Gross 81 Nett 64 to win the junior Phyllis Stanyon Trophy on Sunday 14th June 2009 to win the competition by 3 shots. It was a fantastic score by Jake in the first junior gold letter of the season. Jake has now been cut from 17 to 15. Ian Timmins was second with Gross 95 Nett 67 to get cut to 26. Oli Fletcher-Warrington was third with a Nett 70, while David Rees was fourth with a Nett 72. The scores from the juniors are still very good, and hopefully the good scores will continue and the handicaps will continue to come down.
Texas Scramble
Darren Peden and Roger Loach shot a Gross 70 with 3.6 shots to give them Nett 66.4 and win the competition by 1.2 shots. Ray Clark and Tim Bingham were second on count-back with 67.6 Nett, along with Ben Hall and Dave Goodman. Steve Ablett and Joe Larkey were fourth and last with 68.8. There were only four teams entered in the competition which gave the winners a £12 voucher each.

Under 35's
The Under 35's team lost 3 1/2 - 1/2 to Scraptoft away on Thursday 25th June. The four pairs were Ed Eley and Oli Fletcher-Warrington, Paul Hillsdon and Adam Jacques, Dave Goodman and James Whitehead, and Ben Hall and Dale Baker. Paul and Adam managed the half in the teams 4th game of the year, although Ed and Oli almost managed a memorable comeback. A full match report can be found in the under 35's section.
Juniors
The Junior Summer Trophy was played on Sunday 28th June 2009, and the format is 36 holes, with the first 18 holes a medal, and then the second 18 holes being played as a stableford. The final scores are worked out by taking away the amount of stableford points each player gets from their nett medal score. If a player shoots nett 69, then gets 39 points, his final score would be 30. The winner is the player with the lowest score. Oli's medal score was Gross 78 Nett 66, and after the medal he lead by 5 over Jake Hurst and Dale Baker, who had both shot Nett 71's. Everybody expected Dale and Jake to make a charge in the afternoon and challenge Oli, but both could only manage 32 points, giving them a total of 39. Oli's biggest challenge in the end came from younger brother Adam, who followed his nett 73 with 40 points, to give him a total of 33. Oli continued his great form and managed 39 points in the afternoon, giving him a 36 hole score of 27, beating his brother and winning the competition by 6. Oli has now been cut to 10.7 (playing handicap 11), but the handicap committee are watching, and may decide to cut him to 10 at the next meeting. Another good day for Oli who has been in good form this year, securing a number of tournament victories already. Well done Oli!
Cricket Team
After his fantastic win in the Junior Summer Trophy on Sunday 28th June, Oliver Fletcher-Warrington starred for Oadby in their first ever cricket match on Monday 29th June. The match was arranged by Dave Goodman and the team played a friendly match against Dave's team. It was a friendly 2020 match, and Oadby, who fielded first after Goodman lost the toss, restricted their opponents to 126 in 18 overs after the match was reduced due to the possibility of bad light and rain. Oadby knocked the runs off in 16 overs, crusing to a 7 wicket victory. The people who played in the match in batting order were: Neil Whittenbury, Oli Fletcher-Warrington, Ed Eley, Darren Read, Dale Baker, Ben Hall, Adam Fletcher-Warrington, Dave Goodman, Brian Fletcher-Warrington and Gary Smith. There will be a page added soon which will contain all of the stats from the match and any future matches. The team page will be found in Teams-Other OGC Teams-OGC Cricket Team.
