Mail On Sunday Team 2009

The format for this competition is a 5 man team who play singles matchplay. The matches are not of scratch, so there are shots. It is simply case of the team with the most points wins the match. If the match is level at 2 1/2 - 2 1/2 at the end, there is a playoff. The playoff is played by the players who went out 5th, so it pays to put your best matchplayer 5th, so the team is not necessarily in handicap order. The competition is ran by the Mail on Sunday newspaper. The first rounds are normally kept very local, with the matches tried to be arranged so that teams do not have to travel very far.

Date Opponents Home/Away Result
Sat 21st February 2009 Glen Gorse Golf Club Away Lost 4-1

1st Round

The 5 man team took on Glen Gorse Golf Club on Saturday 21st February and the team unfortunately lost 4-1, with Dave Goodman being the only victor out of the team. The other players were Lee Tebbutt, Ben Hall, Ed Eley and Tidge Gharial. The team will all be very disapointed with the result but they did come up against a strong Glen Gorse side who fielded a strong team, all who seemed to play well. The support was greatly appreciated and we thank Su Goodman, vice-captain John Goodman and club captain Stuart Robinson who all turned out to support the team at Glen Gorse.
