Mens McDonald Trophy 2010

Mens Division 1

On a weekend where scoring was tough for the lower handicappers, Adam Jacques came through as division 1 winner after a very solid Gross 75 Nett 69 off his 5 handicap, to get him back down to 4 at the first time of asking. Adam picks up a voucher for £26 for this knock, although it could have been slightly better had it not been for a disapointing 7 down the 15th. Even with this it was still a very good knock from Adam, who beat Glen Mackenize by a shot. Glen shot a Gross 80 Nett 70 off his 10 handicap to pick up a £15 voucher for finishing second in the group. Club Champion Ed Eley finished third in division 1 after shooting a Gross 73 Nett 71 off his 2 handicap to pick up an £11 voucher. Richard Bonser and Jan Reading were fouth and fifth in the division after both shooting Nett 72's.
Mens Division 2
Scoring was much better in division 2, with the winner of division 2 needing to shoot Nett 67. That man was the ever solid and consistent Dave Sawbridge. Dave has been playing some fantastic golf this year, with this knock continuing that great form. Dave's Nett 67 was a Gross 81 off his 14 handicap, although he has now been cut down to 12.6, very close to a playing handicap of 12. Dave picks up a £26 voucher for this win. Salesh Shah was second in the division to pick up a £15 voucher. Salesh shot a Gross 86 Nett 68 off his 18 handicap to pick up the voucher and also get cut down to 17 in the process. Another man who has been very solid this year is Ron Allen, and he cotinued that form to finish third in the division and pick up an £11 voucher. Ron shot a Gross 86 Nett 69 off his 17 handicap to beat Richard Holt (Gross 87 Nett 69) on count-back into third place. Mick Tebbutt was fifth in the division after shooting a Nett 72.
Mens Division 3
Although general scoring in division 3 was not great, one man went extremely low to not only win division 3 but also the McDonald Trophy on the whole. Stuart Monksfield has been in fantastic form recently, picking up a number of prizes including his first Gold Letter the previous week. Another one followed here after a Gross 88 Nett 64 off his 24 handicap saw him win the division by 8 shots, picking up a £6 voucher and getting cut down to 2 in the process. It was a fantastic knock from Stuart which included a 9 on the 15th, so it could have been even better. Well done Stuart! A couple of fantastic weeks. Brian Haines was second with a solid Nett 72 (Gross 93 off 21,) while John Ball was third with a Nett 73, beating Pete Tailby on count-back.
