Mens Municipal Cup Team 2009

The Municipal Cup is played every year between Oadby, Western Park and Humberstone Heights. It is a foursomes competition so the pairs play alternate shots, with players teeing off on alternate holes. There are four pairs from each club who play at each of the three courses, and each club will take a reserve to each club. The pairs all play stableford, and at the end all of their points are added up, and the club with the highest amount of points wins. The reserve scores do not come into the overall score, but they play for themselves, with trophies being awarded to best reserve at each course, and also to best pair at each course. At the end there is always a presentation and meal at one of the clubs. The location for this presentation changes every year. This year it is to be held at Western Park, then next year at Oadby, then the year after Humberstone before going back to Western Park, and so on. Oadby are defending the trophy in 2009. The teams to play at the various courses are listed below. The first tee time at each course is 12 o clock, and the cost for each player is £10 for the meal & prizes. Good luck team!

Western Park

Report

Unfortunately the team could not regain the trophy that they have owned over the last few years. Conditions were very nice, with the weather doing everybody big favours and staying very nice all day. There was no sign of rain which certainly made up for the greens. The condition of all three courses greens were not brilliant by all accounts, although reports suggested that the rest of each of the courses was not to bad. Certainly Western Park played very well other than for the greens being a bit dry and hard. Scoring at Western Park was not to bad for the teams from Oadby, with Lee Tebbutt and Paul Littlewood leading the way on 39, giving them the title of best pair at the course. Ben Hall and James Whitehead putted pretty poorly, but manage a very solid 38. Tidge Gharial and Mark Allen also shot under their handicaps, shooting 37. Oli Fletcher-Warrington struggled a bit in his first foursomes game playing with Dave Leet, and Dave also struggled as they finished with 26 points. Those scores gave Oadby a total of 140 points at Western Park. Humberstone managed 135 points while Western Park only managed 124 points. The reserve Jake Hurst shot a very solid 33 in his first outing at Western Park. At Humberstone Kev Wood and Andy Vale won the best pair with 33 points. Chris Smith and Rich Primrose shot 32 points, and Stuart Robinson and Ron Allen got 31. Dale Baker and Gary Smith managed 28, all four scores very respectable given the best pair got 33 points. Oadby's total score of 124 at Humberstone was second to the 125 by Humberstone, while Western Park got 100. The reserve John Goodman got 30 points, which was only 3 behind the best reserve. Unfortunately at Oadby Humerstone got 128 points to Oadby's 119 to Western Park's 118 which gave the three teams scores of 388 for Humberstone, 383 for Oadby and 342 for Western Park. Unfortunately the teams at Oadby struggled to get any momentum throughout their rounds and although points were hard to come by by all three clubs, the 39 points by one of the Humberstone pairs (which was the best score by 6 points) finished off Oadby and made sure that Humberstone won the trophy back for the first time since 1988. Im sure the team from Oadby will be much more determined next year, and Im sure evreybody will be putting 100% in to try and win the trophy back. Well done to everyone who played, especially the people who were called up as last minute replacements.
