Mixed Municipal Cup Team 2009

The Mixed Municpal Cup is played in a Greensomes format. Greensomes is where both players tee off, and the best tee-shot is then chosen. The two players then play alternate shots with that ball. If player A hit the best tee-shot and their ball was chosen, player B would hit the next shot, followed by player A then player B and so on. The pairs for the Mixed Municipal Cup consist of a male and a female member, and each club send two pairs to each course, so in total there will be 6 pairs playing from each of the three clubs. At the end of the round all of the pairs go back to the host club for that year where there is a meal and a prixe presentation. The competition is played by Oadby, Humberstone Heights and Western Park, and the host club will rotate each year. For 2009 it is Western Park, it will be Oadby in 2010, Humberstone in 2011 and then back to Western Park and so on. All of the scores from all 6 pairs are added together, and the winning club is the club whose 6 pairs score the most amount of stableford points.

Western Park

Report

For the last three years, Humberstone had held the Mixed Municipal Cup, and with the Mens, Ladies and Junior teams failing to win their cup's, the mixed was Oadby's last chance of the year. The competition should have taken place back in Juen, but was cancelled due to weather. With a strong side out, Oadby felt like they had a good chance, and in the end they stormed to a 12 point victory, with a 6 team total of 242, an impressive 26 under par. Western Park were second with a total of 230, and Humberstone were 3 further back on 227. The Oadby teams who play at home are always expected to do well with it being their home course, and the players didnt dissapoint, with Ben Hall and Briony Allen playing some fantastic golf to get 45 points. Craig Seal and Cathy Smith also played some fantastic golf on their way to an equally as impressive 43. Ben and Briony won the Best Pair at Oadby. The teams at Humberstone didnt play as well, but considering they had not played together before it was a good achievement for Oli Fletcher-Warrington and Bev Dodds to get 36, and Paul Hillsdon and Kerry Coulter to get 38. The strongest pairs are always sent to Western Park, and once again the two solid pairs did not let the side down. Dave and Su Goodman finished with 39 points having played average golf, a sign of how good a pair they are. Ed Eley and Shirley Bright had a poor finish to thier round, but still managed a very solid and impressive 41 points. It was a fantastic team performance from everybody involved, and it is fantastic to see the trophy back at Oadby for the first time since 2005.
