John has now been at the club a while, and he has been doing a fantastic job, teaching a large number of people during the very successful 'Festival of Golf.' With the Festival of Golf now over, more information on John's teaching has been added to the website. The following text is from John himself.

Well hello to everyone again! Apologies for the time taken to update my information page, but my first 5 weeks of coaching at Oadby have been very hectic to say the least! I have settled in very well and would like to thank both the members and visitors of Oadby Golf Club for supporting me and making me feel very at home over the last 5 weeks.

The Festival of Golf which ran from October 3rd to October 16th was a great success! This was an opportunity for anyone and everyone to sample my coaching for free, and give me the chance to meet and help as many people as possible with their golf game. May I take this opportunity to thank all that attended the Festival of Golf and particularly those who have entrusted me with their games since! I consider you all to be playing advertisements for my coaching and I will go the extra mile for you all!

The Festival of Golf will also run early next spring for two weeks. I expect to see all the people that could not make this one sign up early for the next one! And yes that includes all the synics and non believers! Come and try me; it will cost you nothing but your time and you never know I might even help!

Ladies & Seniors roll up sessions:

These sessions are designed to make my coaching affordable and are for both members and non members, from beginners to seasoned players. I aim to provide a fun group atmosphere where everyone can learn. There will be occasions when we approach things as a group, but in the main I will make them as individual as possible. Short game will be a big focus as this is the area that makes the most difference to your scores! These sessions are £5 per person per session and you can attend as many as you like and there is no need to book, just turn up! Recently I have given an hours coaching to individuals for £5 as they were the only person present!

Ladies sessions:3pm Wednesdays & 10.30am Fridays

Senior sessions:1pm Mondays & 9am Fridays

These times were agreed with the members initially, but please let me know if they need to be reviewed!

Junior Club coaching sessions:

These sessions are going to be held on a Saturday and Sunday and eventually be bi weekly. They will be held in groups and a small charge of around £2 per child is to be paid to David Leet, the junior organiser. The Club gets a coaching grant of £800 per year through the English Golf Union and the charge of £2 is to allow the group coaching to carry on throughout the year. This makes it very affordable and ensures the continued development of the junior section!

My personal aim for the junior section is to increase membership and produce a team of very capable single figure handicappers that will represent Oadby Golf Club within the county and become a renowned force within county golf!

I have also registered my interest in becoming a county coach and have applied for a position to become one of 8 recognised national coaches for juniors!

Private junior group coaching:

I am looking to start these groups soon and they will be charged at £40 for 6 weeks. The aim of these groups is simply to find the next golfing superstar! There is a national junior competition called the wee wonders and in 2002 I coached the winner of both the 6 and 10 year old category and I want someone to win it again! There is a photo of myself coaching these wee wonder winners within the slide show of images.

The sessions are focused on educating the kids on what will make a difference to their scores on the course. Not just the technique they adopt but also how the decisions they make on the course can affect their scores. Very serious it may sound; but it will be done by engaging with the children and making it fun for all not just the elite players!!!

Beginners (4 weeks) and Improvers (6 weeks) courses:

These are group sessions with a maximum of 8 people in the group. The emphasis for beginners is getting a good set up and then the full swings in one go! Trust me its simple and I have amazing results! This is finished off with some chipping and putting. Improvers are much the same but with more emphasis on the short game and finally a session on the actual golf course! Come and learn what really counts!

THE FREE ASSESSMENT:

The jewel in the crown! Individual coaching that starts with an hour’s appraisal of your game. We start with a questionnaire designed to find out your beliefs about your own game. The things you may have been taught, read, watched or trawled through the web for. We find out how you process information internally and how this affects you on the course. I then will watch you hit shots, putting, chipping, pitching and longer shots. After this I will produce a plan of lessons relative to your playing and practice in order to improve your scores!

Something for you all too consider?  Many of us will invest in new equipment year after year costing us hundreds which over many years costs thousands but in reality brings little golfing reward. But the price of a driver would give you coaching for a minimum of 12 months and would bring you more golfing pleasure in the long term!!!

Society days:

These come in various forms of ability and commitment, but from experience involve on the whole the novice, the infrequent or the aspiring golfer!!??

60% of golf shots in a round of golf will occur on the green and within 50 yards of it! FACT!

This is why I include a short game clinic within all society packages and believe it can make a difference instantly in the majority of cases.

I am even willing to give your society a voucher that in my mind should be presented to the person who comes last for a FREE assessment and 1 free lesson!!!!
